How do I use dynamic creatives in meta ads?

By March 13, 2026No Comments

Dynamic creatives are one of Meta’s most powerful tools for scaling and optimizing ad performance. They allow you to upload multiple assets-such as different images, videos, headlines, descriptions, and call-to-action buttons-into a single ad. Meta’s algorithm then automatically mixes and matches these components, showing the best-performing combinations to different segments of your audience. This takes the guesswork out of manual A/B testing and systematically discovers what resonates best.

How to Set Up Dynamic Creatives in Meta Ads Manager

The process is straightforward within Ads Manager. When you create a new ad within your campaign and ad set, you’ll find the option to use Dynamic Creative. Instead of creating multiple, separate ads, you’ll proceed to the ad level and upload your media and copy variations into designated slots.

  1. Choose Your Format: Start by selecting your primary ad format (e.g., single image or video, carousel, collection).
  2. Upload Multiple Assets: In the media section, upload up to 10 images or videos, 5 primary text variations, 5 link description variations, and up to 5 different headlines.
  3. Configure Other Elements: You can also test up to 5 call-to-action buttons and different destination URLs if applicable.
  4. Activate & Optimize: Once live, Meta’s system will test different permutations of these assets, learning in real-time which combinations drive the best results toward your campaign objective (like conversions or traffic).

Best Practices for Maximum Impact

Simply throwing assets together isn’t enough. To use dynamic creatives effectively, you need a strategic approach rooted in testing and data.

  • Start with Strong Variations: Each asset you upload should be a legitimate contender. Don’t use weak options just to fill slots. Ensure your images, videos, and copy are high-quality and aligned with your brand.
  • Test One Variable Category at a Time for Clarity: While you can test everything at once, for clearer insights, consider a more controlled approach. For example, test 5 different headlines against one another while keeping the image and primary text constant. Once you identify a winner, layer in another variable.
  • Leverage Data from Your BI Dashboard: As emphasized in our operational philosophy, data is essential. Use your custom BI dashboard (like the one we provide through Grow) to monitor not just overall performance, but to drill down into which specific creative combinations are winning. Look at metrics like cost per conversion, click-through rate, and engagement rate for each combo.
  • Align with Your Funnel Stage: Your creative strategy should match the audience’s intent. For top-of-funnel awareness, you might test more emotive or educational video variations. For bottom-of-funnel retargeting, dynamic creatives can test specific product benefits, offers, or urgency-driven copy.
  • Feed the Machine with Winners: Dynamic creative is not a “set it and forget it” tool. Regularly review the performance data, remove underperforming assets, and introduce new, hypothesis-driven variations based on your learnings. This creates a continuous optimization loop.
